THE WEB PAGE IS COMING

(Readers, please note, that this was written before this web site was on-line.)

Even though we just changed from a meeting format to these bulletins, we have been discussing accessibility to information a great deal. Some of the local educators have requested that we start a library for their and parent use. This has been taken into serious consideration and I have been pursuing this possibilty since last year. Some of the other groups with information and interests that make up some of the characteristics of being Gifted/LD, may already have started such a library. Their group's arrangements have not coincided with what we have in mind.

While we encourage sharing information, we kept coming back to what our target groups would actually use and read. Articles may prove to be the best way to convey information. They do not require the time a book may take and generally present information in one topic at a time formats. We would identify any that might be be technically overwhelming when presenting them. However, how would we get many of these articles and other sources to those people who are looking for characteristics of the gifted/learning disabled and possible strategies? We wanted a starting place.

In seeking a starting point, we have looked for web sites and found some resources. It was then that we decided to pool as many resources as reasonably possible by creating a "clearing house" of information from what we have prepared and linking to sites. Our criteria is to keep it simple.

Those of you who are reading this now in the usual bulletin format, may sometime before year's end be able to read it in the internet's format. At the start of the 97-98 school year, we will need to find ways to keep faxing our bulletin to you if you are not yet on-line. Please respond to us and let us know by August how you wish to receive our information. We are non-profit and have no subscription service or cost. We would like to keep it that way.

As always we wish to empahasize to all of you are able to research information at the Curry School of Education Library located on the third floor of Ruffner Hall located on the UVA grounds off Emmet Street (Rt 29). You may recognize it as the building connected to the walking bridge across from the parking garage. The Education Library also has a website.
